Fun and free competition – Penguin Classic bookcovers get a makeover by Vue Agency photographers but can you tell who did what?

I love Penguin Classics, I love books and I love photographs, so this free competition, organised by Vue Photographers Agent, has put a smile on my face.

To celebrate the London Literature Festival, which is currently taking place, Vue Agency is giving you and me the chance to win a set of seven classic Penguin novels – each with a unique cover created by one of their photographers. I will definitely give it a whirl, and I would really love to win.

This will be a one-off collection from a great bunch of photographers, some of whom have featured in Hotshoe magazine over the years, most recently with Alan Powdrill’s series Dirty Underdog Dreamers (February-March 2011).  Each novel carries an original piece of artwork by the photographers:
Dylan Collard
Jonathan Minster
Alan Powdrill
Morgan Silk
Penny Cottee
Garry Simpson
Charlie Crane

Each cover illustrates the photographers’ own interpretation of the story and reflect their individual photographic styles. The classics were all chosen personally by the photographers and include Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Dracula, Emma, Animal Farm, Aesop’s The Complete Fables, The Great Gatsby and Magic Tales by Brothers Grimm..

But can you tell who created the cover for which novel?

It’s simple and doesn’t cost a penny.

  • Follow this link to the book covers post on the Vue blog
  • Match each cover to one of the listed photographers.

12 July. The winner will be announced on the last day of the London Literature Festival on 14 July.

NOTE: To create their covers, the photographers took advantage of the My Penguin service set up by Penguin publishers.
